Regina’s Place: Building strong starts for young families

Regina’s Place offers transitional housing designed to support the unique needs of young mothers (ages 22 and under). We provide 15 furnished, subsidized apartments for individuals who are at least seven months prenatal with their first child or are currently parenting. Whether you are seeking a program with a stable environment or looking for guidance within the community, we offer the tools and support needed to build a bright future.

Our program recognizes the immense responsibilities facing young families and provides the stability necessary to foster success.

At Regina’s Place, we believe in a holistic approach to growth. Beyond education, young parents engage in diverse programming tailored to their personal goals.

We focus on three core areas:

Parenting & Child Development

  • Early Childhood Milestones: Education on child development to help parents track and support their child’s growth.
  • Bonding & Attachment: Specialized support to strengthen the vital emotional connection between parent and infant.
  • LEAP (Learning, Earning, and Parenting): Integration with the LEAP formal program to balance educational and parental goals.

Home & Financial Management

  • Nutrition & Culinary Skills: Practical workshops on meal prep, healthy cooking, and baking.
  • Health & Wellness: Guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle for the whole family.
  • Financial Literacy: Budgeting support to prepare for independent living.

Wellness & Career Readiness

  • Mental Health & Recovery: Dedicated support for mental health and addiction to ensure a healthy, stable home life.
  • Pre-Employment Supports: Preparation for the workforce, including resume building and job-readiness coaching.

The Young Parent Family Navigator Program: Community Outreach

The Family Navigator Program is an outreach initiative designed for young parents (25 and under) living within our community. We act as their dedicated partner, helping them navigate the challenges of parenthood, connect with essential resources, and advocate for their family’s future.

How We Partner with Each Young Parent:

  • Resource Connection: We help them identify their specific needs and provide direct referrals to community supports, including childcare and healthcare providers.
  • Housing & Stability Support: If they are looking to complete a housing application or are facing challenges such as past-due rent, we provide the guidance to help them find a solution.
  • Goal Setting & Planning: We work alongside them to set achievable goals for their family’s growth and create a clear plan to reach them.
  • Advocacy & Communication: If they feel their voice isn’t being heard, we are here to support them. We help facilitate communication with care providers and ensure them and their child receive the services they deserve.
  • Early Development Guidance: Access support and information to help them understand and encourage their child’s early growth and milestones.

Sister Regina’s Beautiful Life is Immortalized in the Best Way.

Photo of Sister ReginaOriginally opened as Angela’s Place, it was renamed Regina’s Place in June 2017 as a tribute to the memory of the late Sister Regina Brunelle.

The life and spirit of the late Sister Regina Brunelle live on at Good Shepherd. The “Grandmother” of Angela’s Place and the Jeanne Scott Parent & Child Resource Centre is celebrated by changing the name of Angela’s Place to Regina’s Place.

Renaming the home was a fitting tribute to a mentor, friend, teacher and advocate for hundreds of young moms and their children. Their lives – and the lives of Sister Regina’s co-workers – are far better for having been in her presence.

The honour was preceded by the dedication of the Sister Regina Centre for Education, an alternative education setting at the Jeanne Scott Centre, located adjacent to Regina’s Place.
